Testimonial Jennifer L.

What was the problem you needed to solve?
We wanted to renovate a room in our cellar into a guest suite for out of town visitors. The room had been part of a commercial laundry facility so there was nothing to work with but my imagination.

Why did you choose the business you did?
I had become aware of Harrison Spirit by asking around in the Zurich Expat groups on Facebook. The shop is conveniently located so I dropped by. One look and I know this was the place for me! The selection was impeccably curated, so I set a time to meet with Nina, the brains behind the design.

How did they solve your problem?
I know what I like in a design, but I do not know how to bring it about. I showed Nina a few pictures of rooms that I liked, and she was able to identify what they had in common and then incorporate those elements into a mood board for the space. Before construction, we met at the design center to pick out the flooring, fittings and fixtures, cabinetry etc. After the construction work was done, the real magic happened! I gave Nina my budget, and in one day she turned my empty space into the welcoming guest room that I had imagined!

How was their solution unique?
I have had a lot of difficulty working with local shops, sub-contractors and design centers not only because of the language barrier, but also because the more modern styles that are so popular here are not really my taste. When I try to explain what I want, I found that the advice I was getting was not helpful. The staff just did not “get” what I was trying to achieve. Nina got it in about 30 seconds after looking at my inspiration photos.

I also have to say, we had a difficult design challenge with one aspect of the room. Nina was able to develop a couple of possible solutions at different price points. I am amazed by her creativity!

What did you particularly like about their approach or delivery?
When we first started working together, Nina said that I could be as involved or uninvolved in the design choices as I wanted. At the beginning, I was nervous about not being there for every step of the process. After working with Nina on a couple of visits, I was happy to turn it all over to her which was a LOT more efficient, and there isn’t a thing I would change about the finished result!

How would you summarise the experience as a whole?
Working with Nina was a pleasure. She is extremely talented, but also realistic and patient. Because my German is not very good, it was so reassuring to have Nina there to make sure that my wishes were being interpreted correctly when dealing with craftsmen and sales staff.

Would you recommend the business to others? If so, who?
I would absolutely recommend Nina and Harrison Spirit to anyone, but particularly to English speaking expats who are trying to create a look that is more in line with our American/British/Australian, etc. tastes. I am looking forward to working with Nina on our home renovation this year!
